On a hot summer day, seeing kids playing at Valencia Way (formally known as Eureka Gardens) is a common sight. But a lot of times, those kids have to stay inside. Violence and gang activity have become increasingly common. “Valencia Way has been in the news a lot for the wrong reasons,” said attorney John Phillips.
For these kids, hearing gunshots is as normal as hearing the ice cream truck in other neighborhoods. “When I was a child, I didn’t have to wake up not knowing where my school supplies were going to come from,” said Phillips. For the third year in a row, Phillips and his firm have donated school supplies and wished the young children off to the school year on a positive note.
