Help! My parents need an estate plan. Talking with your parents about estate planning, and creating a will, is never an easy conversation. But having an estate plan is critical to ensure families have a well-developed safety plan in place in case something happens. Starting the conversation now while your parents have the capacity to express their wishes is crucial. Injuries, disease, and accidents can happen suddenly and without a plan in place can cause further emotional turmoil to families. Ask your parents if they have started the estate planning process, and if not, now is the time to help them find someone. When looking for assistance with estate planning, look for someone who does it regularly. Encourage your parents to seek out assistance so that their family knows what they want, so their voices can be heard and their wishes followed, then make sure that plan can be put into action by following through with the right paperwork.
